ART DEPARTMENT! DEC. 14TH!
Really psyched for this- Art Department headlines their first show in over a year and only Baltimore show of 2011! Also playing are Other Colors with a new-ish lineup/set, local song-slinger Dave Fell (White Life, Adventure) doing a probably very funky solo set, and Athens maximal pop wunderkinds Quiet Hooves.
Flawless lineup here, folks, and one of the better shows we've had the pleasure of helping put together- seriously, don't miss it. Here to RSVP.

Debut album of atmospheric experimental pop, featuring two members of local powerhouse Dope Body. This project tones down the volume of that band a bit, in favor of heady, creatively spacy songcraft.
Indeed, one may be tempted to throw the overused words "chillwave" and "tropical" around, but those labels fail to fully capture the layered kitchen-sink production, dub-inflected rhythms and oddly memorable hooks on this album.
Be sure to catch them at the record release show at Soft House on Sept. 3rd with Flock of Dimes, Other Colors, and Real/ Cool Magic, where we'll have copies available. You can also order the LP (which includes a free digital download) over at our bandcamp page.

JUNKERS morphs into FOSSIL EYES
After a series of unforeseen events, including personnel changes and an unpleasant email interaction with a certain Polish band threatening legal action for use of the same name (!), it seemed as if Junkers were doomed to disappear off the musical map forever.
But we’re happy to report that the band has soldiered on, newly invigorated as a three-piece under the name Fossil Eyes. They've got demos of two new songs up on a new myspace page, with more to come. From the sounds of it, they’re beginning to push their garage-based sound in new directions, which is certainly an exciting development.
You can peep the new material over at our Bandcamp page as well, which also contains a virtual 7-inch of four songs recorded by the original lineup last summer.

9. Better Than Old
Nine songs of future folk/rock and lo-fi spectralist pop ambitions from this new Baltimore outfit. Distorted harmony vocals, bass melodies and percussion anchor layers of compressed keyboards, guitars, and tape sounds to create “a skewed miniature of something vast”, to quote a fan of an earlier incarnation of this band. Oh, and the songs are pretty catchy, too.
Limited to 100 copies with handmade packaging and unique silkscreened covers.
$6- postpaid (US)
$8- Canada
$10- World

Or you can purchase it (CD or digital download) at our new Bandcamp page.
Reviewer love for two GenPop acts
In case you missed it, two groups on GenPop got some nice press recently:
The Art Department LP made Baltimore City Paper’s list of Top 10 Best Local Albums for 2010.
And the Junkers 7-inch EP received an extremely flattering review over at the 7-inches blog.
Unfortunately, both of the above groups are on a bit of a hiatus, as was this label and blog. But look out for big things from some newer GenPop acts in 2011.
